Intentions of nurse leaders to integrate workplace mental health, wellness practices

This study by nurse researchers at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, examines the health of nurse leaders and assesses their intentions to integrate mental health and wellness practices into their workplaces.

A total of 217 nurse leaders from five Kentucky nursing organizations were surveyed.

Of the respondents:

  • 86% reported positive physical health
  • 80% reported positive mental health
  • 86% reported improved self-care practices
  • 79% reported integration of self-care practices into their workplaces
  • 55% reported commitment to integrate suicide prevention training into their workplaces.

Overall, nurse leaders reported positive healthy behaviors and intentions to build a culture of workplace health and well being. Their intentions to integrate mental health practices into the work environment is encouraging, the researchers note.
