HFAP announces Joint Replacement Certification program

The Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) recently announced its Joint Replacement Certification program with options for outpatient and inpatient settings that demonstrate excellence in specialty orthopedic care, the July 23 Becker’s ASC Review reports.

Hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers seeking Joint Replacement Certification must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold current accreditation with deemed status or Medicare certification by the state
  • Meet licensure requirements within the state
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable HFAP certification standards
  • Define the population served by the Joint Replacement Certification program within its protocols
  • Provide a minimum of 12 consecutive months of applicable performance measures (or 1 month of data before submitting an application for initial certification).

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality projects joint replacements to become the most common elective surgical procedures in the next few decades.
