Florida hospitals again postponing elective surgery

Editor's Note

As of August 1, 2021, more than 10,200 people in Florida were hospitalized with COVID-19, which surpasses the 10,179 reported during the previous peak on July 23, 2020, Becker’s Hospital Review reported on August 2.

Because of this peak in hospitalizations, some Florida hospitals and healthcare systems are once again postponing or limiting nonemergency surgical procedures, including:

  • Health First in Rockledge
  • Baptist Health in Jacksonville
  • BayCare Health System in Clearwater
  • Parrish Medical Center in Titusville
  • AdventHealth Wesley Chapel, part of Altamonte Springs-based AdventHealth.

In addition, AdventHealth hospitals in Polk County will only allow virtual visits for COVID-19 patients, with some exceptions, and non-COVID-19 patients will be allowed one or two visitors per day.

At Cleveland Clinic Florida region, non-COVID-19 patients may have one designated visitor during their hospitalization, and COVID-19 patients will not be allowed visitors.
