International Council of Nurses issues statement on Ukraine

The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and its more than 130 members around the world, on February 25, issued a statement saying they stand in solidarity with the people, nurses, and healthcare workers caught up in the conflict in Ukraine.

In the statement, former American Nurses Association president and now president of ICN, Pamela Cipriano, PhD, RN, FAAN, says the protection and safety of nurses and all healthcare workers caught up in the conflict in Ukraine is “paramount and enshrined in international law.”

Any attack or targeting of healthcare workers or healthcare facilities goes against the “Geneva Convention and is an affront against humanity,” she says.

National Nurses Associations have sent messages of support for their colleagues in Ukraine, including the Russian Nurses Association.
