US News ranks best hospitals

US News & World Report has posted its honor roll of the 15 best hospitals for 2015 to 2016. Honor roll hospitals scored near the top in at lease six specialties.

Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital returned to the top spot this year after being second last year. The Mayo Clinic was second, followed by Johns Hopkins Hospital and UCLA Medical Center, which tied for third.

By specialty, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center was number 1 in cancer care, the Cleveland Clinic was number 1 in cardiology and heart surgery, and the Hospital for Special Surgery was number 1 in orthopedics.

US News also identified 520 best regional hospitals, ranking them by state and metro area. 

 

We sifted through data for nearly 5,000 hospitals and results from surveys of more than 140,000 physicians to rank the best centers in 16 adult specialties from cancer to urology. Death rates, patient safety and hospital reputation were a few of the many factors we considered.
