Predictors of COVID-19 booster uptake by nurses

Editor's Note

This study by researchers at South Dakota State University, Brookings, investigates why COVID-19 booster uptake has been a challenge among nurses.

A total of 1,084 nurses were included in the analysis.

Results showed that the odds ratio (OR) for booster uptake was associated with:

  • Partisan self-identification (OR 0.40)
  • Age (OR 1.04)
  • Flu vaccination last season (OR 5.61)
  • Positive COVID-19 test in last 12 months (0.51).

The researchers concluded that “COVID-19 booster uptake has been politicized, even among nurses.” Public health officials should be mindful that interventions to increase booster uptake among healthcare workers will be viewed through a partisan lens.
