Saving on costs and gaining efficiencies are chief responsibilities of any OR business manager, and the OR Business Management Conference offers multiple sessions on how to achieve these goals in a variety of healthcare settings. But with pandemic-related challenges continuing to dominate both personal and professional lives, success also depends on high-functioning people as well as processes.

Two sessions on Tuesday offer insights into the effect of stress and ways to use stress as a positive force rather than just something that makes every day hard. Join Miki Thompson, MSN, ACCNS-AG, CNOR, from OU Medicine, and Gerry Ibay, JD, MHA, from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center for “Stress: Your Key to Success”—Parts 1 and 2.

The role of diversity and inclusiveness in forming successful teams is another concept that deserves consideration. Tuesday’s keynote, “The Inclusive OR: Roles and Goals for Creating a Diverse Team,” presented by Whitman Partners, will share perspectives of BIPOC (Black, indigenous, people of color) leaders who have faced unique challenges in overcoming biases to advance in their careers and build strong teams.
