Leapfrog Group launches survey focusing on patient safety in ASCs

Editor's Note

The Leapfrog Group, an independent nonprofit organization that is behind the biannual Hospital Safety Grades, hopes to assist with patient safety improvements in ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) across the US with its latest initiative, NJ Biz March 25 reports. Starting April 1, the Leapfrog ASC Survey will be available, inviting ASCs nationwide to assess and showcase their commitment to patient safety.

This initiative addresses the critical need for transparency and accountability in a sector where more than 60% of surgical procedures are performed, either in ASCs or hospital outpatient departments, despite a relatively low participation rate in previous assessments. The survey is designed to fill a significant transparency gap, providing an evidence-based, easily accessible database of safety standards for ASCs.

Launched initially in 2019, Leapfrog's annual ASC survey aims to drive improvements in patient care by offering a platform for ASCs to benchmark their safety practices against industry standards and identify areas for enhancement. Participating ASCs can leverage the survey to identify best practices, benchmark their safety performance, affirm their dedication to patient safety, and utilize the findings for quality improvement.

The annual Leapfrog ASC Survey, free and open to all ASCs, will run from April 1 to November 30.
