Joint Commission updates ASC accreditation survey guide

Editor's Note

The Joint Commission has updated its “Ambulatory Care Accreditation Survey Activity Guide for Health Care Organizations,” and has made it available on the Joint Commission Connect extranet site.

Among the updates:

  • Survey document list: A new item has been added requesting identification of all locations where high-level disinfection and sterilization is in use.
  • Surveyor arrival and preliminary planning: The requirement for ASC deemed status surveys has been updated to reflect that two active patients are required at the time of survey.
  • Life Safety Code building assessment: The assessment has been updated to include two additional items—operating/procedure rooms for proper pressure relationships and the condition of emergency power systems and equipment.
