Joint Commission announces update of book on building new, updating facilities

Editor's Note

The Joint Commission on November 20 announced an update to the book, “Planning, Design, and Construction of Health Care Facilities,” which was developed in partnership with the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Health (AIA/AAH).

This 4th edition includes:

  • Eight new case studies that highlight design challenges, such as designing hybrid operating rooms and designing for resiliency in a tornado-prone region.
  • Expanded sections on, infection prevention and control, construction safety, strategic planning, and sustainable design.
  • Information on process improvement, risk assessment, and commissioning.
  • Chapters on specific components of a project (ie, planning, design, construction, commissioning, and occupancy and postoccupancy) and how the components interact.

The release date of the book is January 15, 2020.
