Johns Hopkins sustains success as top performer

The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore sustained top performance on all Joint Commission accountability measures from 2012 through 2014, and now more than 96% of patients receive recommended care consistent with national quality measures, this study finds.

The sustainability process included:

  • declaring and communicating goals
  • creating an enabling infrastructure
  • engaging clinicians and connecting them in peer learning communities
  • reporting transparently
  • creating accountability systems.

 

Background: In 2012 Johns Hopkins Medicine leaders challenged their health system to reliably deliver best practice care linked to nationally vetted core measures and achieve The Joint Commission Top Performer on Key Quality Measures ®program recognition and the Delmarva Foundation award.
