ECRI Institute releases 2017 top 10 hazards list

ECRI Institute (Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania) on November 7 released its Top 10 Health Technology Hazards for 2017. Several are specific to the OR.

Topping the list is infusion errors, followed by inadequate cleaning of complex reusable instruments.

Infection risks with heater-cooler devices used in cardiac surgery is fifth, occupational radiation hazards in hybrid ORs is seventh, surgical stapler misuse and malfunctions is ninth, and device failures caused by cleaning products and practices is tenth.

 

​ PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA- The safe use of health technology-from infusion pumps to complex imaging systems-requires that healthcare facilities recognize the possibility of danger or difficulty with those technologies and that they take steps to minimize the likelihood of adverse events. Today, ECRI Institute announces the launch of its Top 10 Health Technology Hazards for 2017 list.
