CMS extends “Two-Midnight” rule partial enforcement delay to end of year

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on August 12 extended the partial enforcement delay of the “Two-Midnight” rule from September 30 to December 31, AHA News reports.

The extension prohibits Recovery Audit Contractors from conducing post-payment patient status reviews for claims with admission dates October 1 to December 31.

CMS also provides more details on previously announced changes in its strategies for patient status claims.

 

As urged by the AHA, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today extended through Dec. 31 the partial enforcement delay of the two-midnight policy. The current delay was set to expire Sept. 30. Under the extension, Recovery Audit Contractors are prohibited from conducting post-payment patient status reviews for claims with dates of admission from Oct.
