CMS extends ‘meaningful use’ deadline to July 1

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on February 26 once again extended the deadline for hardship exemptions for the “meaningful use” requirement of the electronic health records incentive payment program, Modern Healthcare reports.

The new deadline for hospitals, critical access hospitals, physicians, and other eligible professionals is now July 1, 2016. Previous deadlines were March 15 for physicians and other eligible professionals and April 1 for hospitals and critical access hospitals.

CMS also released new streamlined hardship exception application forms.

 

The CMS has extended the deadline for hospitals, physicians and other eligible professionals to file applications for so-called "hardship" exemptions from the meaningful-use requirements of the electronic health records incentive payment program. The new deadline for hospitals, critical-access hospitals (CAHs), physicians and other eligible professionals (EPs) is now July 1, 2016, a brief statement from the CMS said.
