Editor’s Note

In this luncheon presentation, OR Manager Conference attendees delved into the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Quality Measure Reporting Program for ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs).  Gina Throneberry, MBA, RN, CASC, CNOR, director of education and clinical affairs at the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA), shared which quality reporting measures are required by the CMS for ASCs, which lookup tools can be used, and recommended considerations for future reporting measures.

According to Throneberry, in the 2024 ASC Quality Reporting Program, there will be 12 measures reported for facilities to avoid a reduction in the following year’s Medicare reimbursement.

After walking attendees through each of the measures, she shared various helpful resources for participants to use for quality reporting, some of which are linked below. She concluded her presentation with topics for future consideration regarding the program, including:

  • potential adoption of the total hip arthroplasty/total knee arthroplasty measure
  • potential adoption of a pain management measure
  • health equity
  • future of Digital Quality Measurement (DQMs).

Attendees left the session equipped with the knowledge, tools, and understanding needed to navigate the evolving landscape of healthcare quality reporting for ASCs.
