AI-supported app improves physician time, patient communication

Editor's Note

Physicians at the University of Kansas Health System are piloting an AI-based app called Abridge that captures feedback from the medical care team and transcribes it for patients, Fox4 August 9 reports. This AI-led process reportedly saved time on documentation while providing clear guidance for patients

The new app is being piloted by 10 physicians at the hospital, one of whom called it “life changing.” It not only provides a summary for patients, but it also translates medical terminology into less medically complex language for patients to better understand.

Physicians at the University of Kansas Health System spend up to 5 hours a day charting visits with patients, the article noted. With the app, this documentation time was reduced to an hour a day or less. Based on the promising beta testing over the past 2 months, the University of Kansas Health System is considering expanding the technology system-wide.
