Since equipping ORs with video cameras for computer-vision capability at AdventHealth Celebration in Florida, AI-driven data have provided a key resource for improving OR efficiency in several ways, according to an OR leader from the facility highlighted in a December 3 blog post from AORN Periop Life.
One major efficiency leveraged with their AI data includes predictive readiness monitoring to analyze room activity and identify recurring workflow bottlenecks. With these insights staffing was adjusted, room readiness protocols were refined, and parallel processing was improved for breaks and lunches.
Teams at the facility also used AI analytics to flag discrepancies in electronic documentation to create preprocedural readiness tools, assist with pre-op auditing, and track turnover delays.
They also used verifiable timestamps from the AI computer vision technology to match internal observations with actionable data to improve team metrics such as on-time first case starts, which they increased from 61.87% to 78% within a few months.
