On December 8, Pfizer said its COVID-19 booster was found to provide significant protection against the Omicron variant in a laboratory study, the December 8 Becker’s Hospital Review reports.
Blood samples from those who received three doses of the vaccine saw similar neutralization against the Omicron variant as the two-dose series provided against the original coronavirus strain. Those who received two doses had a 25-fold drop in antibodies against the Omicron variant.
Though, two doses of the vaccine may still offer protection against severe disease caused by the Omicron variant, the data show that protection is improved with a third dose, the report says.
