The Joint Commission on October 4 announced that Phase 4 of the EP [elements of performance] Review Project has begun, with EPs across all accreditation programs being evaluated for streamlining and consolidation. Revisions from the first part of Phase 4 will take effect January 1, 2018.
Consolidation is considered for requirements that are integral to a concept and should be evaluated together or concepts that are implicit in a requirement, thus eliminating the need for an additional EP.
Phases 1 and 2 resulted in the deletion of 225 hospital EPs. Phase 3 evaluated the deleted hospital EPs that were also in other accreditation programs.
