Many ASCs are reluctant to explore technological upgrades for various legitimate reasons -- limited financial resources, limited staffing resources, a belief in their current way of doing things. That widespread skepticism and reluctance can be even more pronounced with regard to implementing and using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the ASC setting.

ASC consultant Emily Spooner believes AI can unlock increased efficiency and revenue opportunities at ASCs.
Emily Spooner, president and owner of ASC consulting and management firm Marisa Consulting and a 23-year ASC veteran, believes the power of AI to reduce costs while uncovering hidden revenue opportunities is undeniable enough that it should cause more ASC leaders to more closely consider it. "There are just a lot of different ways to create efficiencies with AI,” she says.
Ms. Spooner will explore the topic in her session “AI-powered insights to boost efficiency and margins in the ASC setting” at the 2026 OR Business Management Summit, which will be held Feb. 9 to 11 at the Hilton Austin in Austin, Texas.
