Healthgrades recognizes top 15% of hospitals for patient experience in 2025

Editor's Note

Healthgrades has recognized 377 hospitals across 44 states with its 2025 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, as announced in a May 13 press release. These hospitals represent the top 15% nationwide for patient experience, demonstrating exceptional performance in delivering positive, patient-centered care.

The award is based on an analysis of Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Healthgrades evaluated 3,059 hospitals that submitted at least 100 patient experience surveys during this period, focuses on ten key patient experience measures, including communication with doctors and nurses, responsiveness of hospital staff, communication about medicines, cleanliness, noise levels, discharge information, and care transition. Patients' responses are standardized and weighted to calculate an overall patient experience score for each hospital, which is grouped into one of four categories and ranked by overall experience scores. The top 15% of hosptials are designated as Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients.

Among the 2025 recipients, 66 hospitals also received the Patient Safety Excellence Award, and only ten hospitals earned all three of Healthgrades' top honors: Outstanding Patient Experience, Patient Safety Excellence, and America's Best Hospitals.
