Healthcare employment up in November

Healthcare employment in the US rose by 76,800 from November to December, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released on December 8. That is compared to the average monthly gain of 240,000 over the prior 12 months, for a total of 17,213,900 seasonally adjusted workers.

In November, healthcare employment trended up also in:

• ambulatory healthcare services rose by 32,400
• hospital employment saw a major uptick, rising by 18,100
• nursing and residential care facilities rose by 7,900.

The overall unemployment rate "edged down" to 3.7%, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics news release also released on November 3.
