Building off the idea that the behaviors of health care leaders influence organizational culture and drive team well-being, the American Medical Association has released a Wellness-Centered Leadership Playbook. It includes strategies to cultivate a culture of wellness by targeting values, behaviors, and attitudes that promote self-care, compassion, and professional growth within their teams.
The playbook describes more on what wellness-centered leadership is and outlines four strategies to achieve it, including how to:
*Build trust
*Give and receive feedback
*Prioritize clinician well-being
*Make unit-level changes effectively
Additionally, special focus areas are explored in the playbook, such as how leaders can address crisis care and recovery. For example, it highlights crisis care experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic when clinicians faced acute stress effects and needed the right approach to recovery to fuel future resilience.
A separate focused section on health equity and racial equity provides insights on how healthcare leaders can pursue these goals in day-to-day work.
