The Joint Commission, on April 19, posted the Top 5 requirements and corresponding elements of performance (EPs) identified most frequently as “not compliant” during surveys and reviews in 2022.
The Top 5 for Hospitals have to do with:
Implementing infection control activities when performing intermediate and high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical devices and supplies (IC.02.02.01, EP2)
Conducting an environmental risk assessment to identify features in the physical environment that could be used to attempt suicide (NPSG.15.01.01, EP1)
Steps to take before administering medications (MM.06.01.01, EP3)
Ensuring that interior spaces meet patient needs and are safe and suitable for the services provided (EC.02.06.01, EP1)
Ensuring that ventilation systems provide appropriate pressure relationships, air exchange rates, filtration efficiencies, temperature, and humidity (EC.02.05.01, EP15).
