Editor's Note
Three nurse executives shared their essential strategies to drive effective change, including by building their own leadership skills for transforming feedback into change, according to a recent webinar summary in a November 12 HealthLeaders news story.
They suggested in the webinar that nurse leaders should have a keen understanding for how operational processes work and which stakeholders are involved with proposed changes. Leaders should keep in mind that all stakeholders need to be involved in shaping new processes, once implemented, to prevent roadblocks. They also stressed the value of being able to communicate with staff at different career stages as part of creating a culture of psychological safety to obtain essential feedback. These communication skills should incorporate their own listening skills to avoid creating power dynamics in communication.
The third strategy they advocated was for nurse leaders to develop their own leadership skills to understand data and know how to transform feedback into action. Connecting with nurse leader peers is essential in this work, per the news story.
