Prisma Health and Atlas Healthcare Partners join to develop ASCs in Southeastern U.S.

Prisma Health and Atlas Healthcare Partners last week launched a joint venture (JV) to develop a network of ASCs in two Southeastern states.

The partners plan to develop and operate “more than 15” ASCs in key markets in the region, including the South Carolina markets of Greenville-Spartanburg, Columbia, Charleston, and the state’s coastal region, as well as southeastern Tennessee. The JV will kick off by transitioning two existing and two new Prisma Health ASCs into the partnership, with Atlas assuming management of the facilities.

Prisma Health, a private nonprofit health company with 32,000 employees, operates 19 acute and specialty hospitals, hundreds of practice sites, and nearly 6,000 employed and independent clinicians across its “clinically integrated” inVio Health Network, which focuses specifically on the areas where the ASCs will be developed.

Atlas Healthcare Partners works with nonprofit health systems and physicians to develop, invest in and manage ASCs. It is the exclusive joint venture ASC partner of Banner Health, MultiCare, Corewell Health, ChristianaCare and now Prisma Health. Atlas has helped build 49 ASCs in seven states since 2019, is co-owned by its health system partners, and plans to form additional JV partnerships with health systems across the country. It has also formed MedAtlas, a joint venture with MedAxiom, to develop and operate cardiovascular ASCs in partnership with health systems and cardiologists.
