Nursing academic partnership playbook released

Editor's Note

A new academic practice partnership playbook for nursing has been released through collaborative work between The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL), according to a December 2 news release from AACN.

The AACN/AONL Academic Practice Partnership Playbook: From Shared Vision to Action was developed by the AACN/AONL Academic-Practice Advisory Committee. It provides advice and examples of collaborations that address critical needs in nursing. For example, recommendations are offered to expand nursing school capacity, improve nurse graduate practice-readiness, elevate nursing science, and build a sustainable nursing workforce, per the news release.

The playbook is described as a unified framework that covers five primary domains, including:
*Transforming healthcare through human-centered care
*Moving to competency-based nursing education
*Sustaining the supply of highly educated nurses
*Leading innovation
*Advancing nursing science

As noted in the press release by the AACN’s president and chief executive officer, “Academic-Practice partnerships are an important mechanism for improving health and healthcare while strengthening alignment between nurses in education and clinical practice.” The AONL’s chief executive officer described the playbook as “a blueprint and call to action.”
