Leadership advice for the year ahead

Being able to motivate staff members is a leadership imperative. Often, it’s the advice and lessons received from mentors that help shape a leader’s approach. Several healthcare executives recently shared in a November 26 article published in Becker’s Hospital Review about what lessons have inspired them to lead others.

For example, an executive from a major medical center in California shared a lesson from his mentor to remain humble and acknowledge the people who have supported his path. He also shared his reminder to treat all coworkers in an organization as peers, showing them respect, authenticity, and appreciation.

Another leader from the same organization offered inspiration from the Outward Mindset to acknowledge the importance of assuming positive intent in everyone. By leading with humanity, leaders can inspire performance and even healing he said, per the article.

A leader from a major healthcare organization in Georgia offered the value of starting each day with purpose, perspective, and gratitude. He also suggested taking time for reflection and intention in daily practice and remembering that leading others is a privilege. For the leader, combining these principles, which resonate with his personal spiritual practice, helps him to foster psychological safety and ongoing improvement. Ultimately, he noted how a leader who can create conditions of trust, humility, clarity, inclusion, and respect to inspire high-performing teams.
