Healthcare employment in the US rose by 45,000 from September to October, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), released October 4. That is compared to an overall monthly gain of 254,000 in August and below the average monthly gain of 57,000 over the prior 12 months..Hospital employment specifically rose by 12,000.
Both the unemployment rate, at 4.1%, and the number of unemployed people, at 6.8 million, changed little in September, BLS reports. Both figures are higher than last year’s 3.8% and 6.3 million, respectively.
