Healthcare employment up in September

Healthcare employment in the US rose by 40,900 from August to September, according to the latest report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, released on October 6. That is compared to the average monthly gain of 53,000 over the prior 12 months, for a total of 17,055,100 seasonally adjusted workers.

In September, healthcare employment trended up also in:

• ambulatory healthcare services rose by 24,300
• hospitals rose by 8,400
• nursing and residential care facilities rose by 8,200.

The overall unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.8%, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics news release also released on October 6.
