CoxHealth launches construction of pediatric outpatient care center, including ASC

CoxHealth posted on LinkedIn last week that it formally kicked off construction of what it calls the largest pediatric outpatient center in Southwest Missouri.

The St. Louis Children’s at CoxHealth Specialty Care Center is a joint project among CoxHealth, St. Louis Children's Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

"With this new, dedicated pediatric outpatient specialty care center, we are expanding local access to highly specialized medical and surgical care for our kids,” said Sarah Becker, vice president and administrator of St. Louis Children's at CoxHealth.

The 133,000 square-foot facility, scheduled to open in summer 2027, will be located in the city of Springfield, Mo., which is several hours’ drive from St. Louis. It will feature an ambulatory surgery center along with imaging, laboratory services, infusion, pediatric specialty care clinics and more, says CoxHealth. Among the advanced pediatric care specialties on site will be cardiology, hematology oncology, ophthalmology, surgery and urology.

The project builds on the June 2025 announcement of a joint venture among CoxHealth and St. Louis Children’s Hospital, with the support and expertise of pediatric specialists from Washington University School of Medicine, to bring more advanced care to children and families in Springfield and the surrounding region. Ashley Casad, CoxHealth senior vice president and president of Springfield hospitals, said nearly one-third of pediatric patients in the community currently need to leave the region to receive specialized care.
