Preparing for active shooter events

Elizabeth Dalton, BSN, RN, will never forget the day her facility’s loudspeaker announced that an imminent life-threatening event was occurring. Unfortunately, the announcement was not specific, so she and the other staff did not realize there was an active shooter in the building. They only knew something horrible had happened.
