Editor’s Note

Helping people, having a job that is interesting and engaging, good benefits, and job security are the most important Generation (Gen) Z nurse work values found in this study.

A survey that assessed the work values of baccalaureate Gen Z nursing students found that their top four most important work value components were:

  1. social/altruistic
  2. instrumental/extrinsic
  3. cognitive/intrinsic
  4. prestige.

A new generation of nurses, born in 1995, are now part of the nursing workforce, and they will bring new expectations and ideals about life and work into the healthcare setting, the authors note.
