The Joint Commission on November 23 announced that it had updated its 2023 ORYX performance measure reporting requirements, effective January 1, 2023.

Key updates for hospitals and critical access hospitals include:

  • Three new electronic clinical quality measures (eCQMs)—hospital harm, severe hypoglycemia; hospital harm, severe hyperglycemia; and ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction patients in the ED
  • eCQM data must be provided on a minimum of four measures for all four quarters, beginning with 2023 discharges
  • Retirement of chart-abstracted, hospital-based inpatient psychiatric services data.

In addition, The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will include perinatal care eCQMs for cesarean birth and severe obstetric complications as optional measures for 2023 collection.
