Survey: Most US teens, young adults want COVID-19 vaccination

Editor's Note

This survey of young people aged 14-24 years by researchers at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, finds that most are interested in receiving a COVID-19 vaccination.

Of 1,074 respondents:

  • 74.6% are interested in getting vaccinated to protect themselves and return to normal
  • 41.8% are concerned about adverse effects
  • 11.7% are concerned about the effectiveness of the vaccines
  • 32.1% have no concerns.

Overall, 72.8% believe the vaccines are safe and/or effective, citing their trust in science (20.1%) and data (30.7%).

The respondents note that they would like an easy sign-up process at locations close to them, and most say they will continue mitigating behaviors after vaccination.

As younger demographic groups become eligible, vaccination sites must be located in convenient locations, provide easy to make appointments, and be prepared to administer vaccines to children, the researchers say.
