Safe Flight Instrument Corporation creates ventilator splitter

Editor's Note

Safe Flight Instrument Corporation (White Plains, New York), a company that develops aircraft safety and performance technology, has developed the Quad/Vent Splitter that allows four patients to use one ventilator simultaneously, the April 13 Aviation International News Online reports.

Using 3-D printing, the device has four independent ports that can be stopped using tethered splitter plugs, which permit a two-, three-, and four-way configuration.

It is hoped that the Quad/Vent Splitter will help compensate for the lack of availability of ventilators that are being used to treat patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The device is undergoing approval under the Food and Drug Administration’s emergency-use authorization for hospitals.
