More than 600 healthcare organizations, including hospitals, practices, and other health facilities, have been affected by a data breach on an accounts receivable management company called Professional Finance Company's network, Becker’s Health IT July 5 reports.

The ransomware attack on Professional Finance Company, which provides services to healthcare organizations, according to Becker’s, occurred on February 26 when the company “learned that an unauthorized party had accessed personal information stored on its system.”

Patient information obtained from the breach includes first and last names, addresses, accounts receivable balances, and information regarding payments made to accounts. “In some cases, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information and medical treatment information were compromised,” Becker’s noted.
