Poll: 23% of HCWs likely to leave profession soon

Editor's Note

A USA Today/Ipsos Poll that was released on February 22 and was conducted between February 9 and February 16 found that almost 1 in 4 healthcare workers (HCWs) report they are likely to leave the healthcare field in the near future, Becker’s Hospital Review reports. The poll surveyed 1,170 adult HCWs, including physicians, nurses, paramedics, therapists, and other professionals.

Among its findings, the poll also revealed that 39% of those surveyed believe that the healthcare system is "on the verge of collapse"; 32% disagreed with that statement. In addition, 52% of HCWs said they are feeling “burned out,” with 43% saying they feel “anxious” and 21% percent saying they feel “angry.”

The poll also revealed that 80% of HCWs still report being somewhat or very satisfied with their current job despite the challenges. However, only 21% said they feel the pandemic is mostly or completely under control, reflecting the ongoing strain HCWs are still experiencing in their professions.
