National Time Out Day, June 8, draws attention to the need for everyone on the surgical team to pause before a surgical procedure begins to make sure they are doing the right procedure on the right patient at the right site.
AORN created the National Time Out Day to raise awareness of The Joint Commission’s Universal Protocol and also developed the Comprehensive Surgical Checklist to meet the Universal Protocol and the key safety checks as outlined in the World Health Organization’s Surgical Safety Checklist.
The AORN website has posters and other suggestions for observing the day.
