Joint Commission: Standards revisions for Comprehensive Cardiac Centers

Editor' Note

The Joint Commission in partnership with the American Heart Association recently approved a new certification program that will provide an independent evaluation of an organization's eligibility to qualify as a comprehensive cardiac center.

After reviewing program requirements, the Joint Commission identified the following areas for revision:

  • Collaborative model of care and continuous quality improvement (CCCM.4, CCCM.5, CCCPI.1).
  • Population health needs, including community education (CCM.10).

In addition, existing requirements were revised for clarity, and centers are no longer required to participate in patient-centered cardiovascular research.
