Joint Commission announces updates to E-dition

The Joint Commission on April 24 announced that it will be posting spring 2019 updates to the E-dition® of its accreditation and certification manuals in May.

The changes, which can be viewed on an organization’s Joint Commission Connect® extranet site, will go into effect July 1 unless otherwise noted.

Among the updates:

  • Clarified note for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services Standard PC.03.01.01, EP 5, related to circulating duties in the OR in critical access hospital and hospital programs.
  • Deleted Performance Improvement Standard PI.01.01.01, EP 21, regarding collecting data on the medical necessity and appropriateness of procedures for deemed-status ASCs.
  • Revised requirement for participation in a national joint replacement registry for hospitals, critical access hospitals, and ASCs participating in the Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total knee Replacement program.
