Federal workers, contractors must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination

President Biden on July 29 announced that all federal workers and contractors will be required to prove their COVID-19 vaccination status or face travel restrictions, mask requirements, and weekly or twice-weekly testing, Reuters reports.

The federal government has about 2.18 million civilian employees (including nurses and other healthcare workers at VA hospitals), 3.7 million contract employees, and 570,000 postal workers. Postal workers are not affected by the vaccination rules.

The administration also directed the Defense Department to look into requiring members of the military to take the vaccine.

Biden’s decision to require million of federal workers and contractors to show proof of vaccination is a departure from his opposition to vaccine passports, the report says.
