ECRI, on August 29, announced its new guidance on “Supporting Resilience in Healthcare Workers” that was published on August 15 for its members.

With a new focus on protecting healthcare workers against burnout and other behavioral health issues, new strategies for protecting and maintaining resilience have emerged, ECRI says.

The guidance recommends the following actions:

  • Seek feedback on perceptions of and programs to foster staff resilience.
  • Involve leadership and staff at all levels of a resilience initiative.
  • Create a plan that allows flexibility for scheduling and workload as well as development of staff resilience resources.
  • Be open to suggestions for culture changes, particularly those associated with employee support.
  • Recognize good work and celebrate positive values and commitment.
  • Regularly assess resilience and set reasonable expectations.
