CMS accepting meaningful use hardship applications

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that eligible hospitals may submit hardship exception applications until July 1 to avoid 2019 meaningful use payment adjustments under the Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs, and critical access hospitals may submit applications until November 30 to avoid 2017 payment adjustments.

Eligible hospitals do not need to submit these applications if they successfully demonstrated meaningful use in program year 2017, if they are new and obtained a new CMS certification number during the October 1, 2016 through July 1, 2018 time period, or if they are critical access hospitals.
