CDC updates guidelines on school reopenings

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on February 12 updated its guidelines for K-12 school reopenings.

The update provides an operational strategy for safe delivery of in-person instruction through the integration of mitigation and control components as well as public health efforts.

Included are the following:

  • consistent implementation of layered mitigation strategies
  • indicators of community transmission reflect level of community risk
  • phased mitigation and learning modes based on community transmission levels
  • testing to limit transmission and outbreaks
  • vaccination of teachers and staff as soon as supplies allow.

The CDC says the guidelines and recommendations will be updated to reflect new evidence.
