CDC reports progress in lowering HAIs

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on October 11 released as report showing progress by hospitals in reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

The report shows hospitals reduced:

  • abdominal hysterectomy surgical site infections (SSIs) by 13%
  • central line-associated bloodstream infections by 11%
  • Clostridium difficile infections by 8%
  • catheter-associated urinary tract infections by 7%
  • colon surgery SSIs by 7%
  • methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections by 6%
  • ventilator-associated events by 2%.

The report is based on 2016 data, published in 2018 and uses 2015 baseline and risk-adjusted models.
