Ascension announces full EHR restoration after cyberattack disruption

Editor's Note

Ascension has restored electronic health records (EHRs) throughout all hospitals and clinics nationwide, according to a June 14 update from the St. Louis-based health system. "Clinical workflow in our hospitals and clinics will function similarly to the way it did prior to the ransomware attack," the statement reads, adding that patients can expect shorter wait times as well as more efficient appointment scheduling and prescription fulfillment.

However, the organization cautions that investigations of the May 8 cyberattack remain ongoing, and that data from that date through the restoration of local EHRs might be temporarily inaccessible.

As detailed in a recent article from Becker’s Hospital Review, the company claims an “honest mistake” made its systems vulnerable to the attack, which disrupted IT systems and operations for 140 hospitals.
