Allina Health and software company Qventus partnered earlier this year to implement an artificial intelligence-based tool to help automate OR scheduling, according to a January 10 PR Newswire release, reports January 11 Becker’s Hospital Review.

The tool has capabilities to integrate into electronic health record systems and uses automation, behavioral science, and data to help create better efficiency across OR departments.

"Not only has Qventus given us stronger surgical services growth, it has provided us with an innovative tool for our OR teams and surgical clinics," notes Allina Health VP of Surgical Services and Orthopedics.

Since Allina Health has implemented the system this past year, they have seen multiple efficiency improvements, including:

  • the addition of 3.5 cases per OR per month in the first four months
  • a 36% increase in cases per surgical robot per month
  • a release of more than 100 hours of OR block time per month.
  • automatic scheduling of 2 of 3 elective cases.
