ACS, ASA, AORN call for centralized, coordinated governmental action for COVID-19

In a November 23 letter to federal government leaders, the American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) asked officials “to act collectively and quickly in support of hospitals and healthcare providers as they continue to struggle in response to the ongoing pandemic,” ACS reports.

The letter highlighted three areas of focus:

  • healthcare worker well-being and staffing
  • federally coordinated deployment of supplies, medications, and equipment
  • increased communication and vaccine distribution plan.

The letter follows the national healthcare organizations’ (ie, ACS, ASA, AORN, and American Hospital Association) updated “Joint Statement: Roadmap for Maintaining Essential Surgery during COVID-19 Pandemic.”
