Successful Acquisition
and Management of Capital Purchases
As an OR Manager you will be challenged to develop
and gain approval for new services, programs, and
capital purchases. Administration will expect concrete
information that will support acquisition or denial
of the request. It is imperative that you can clearly
demonstrate the benefit of the request though justifications,
ROI, RFPs, and cost-benefit analysis.
The speaker will share her expertise from the background
as a materials manager, OR business manager, and
currently the VP of perioperative services. She will
provide examples of data reports and cost-benefit
analysis and discuss how to demonstrate maximum return
on investment and conduct a clinical review process.
You will hear how to present information to administration
to gain financial support for new initiatives.
Dana Crompton-Hime,
MHA
VP Perioperative Services, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller
Children’s Hospital, Long Beach, California
This is an hour-and-a-half webinar. Fee $179.

No Retained Objects:
An Ongoing Challenge
A retained object is a devastating event for both
the patient and the surgical team. Statistics show
that retained objects are actually under reported.
Over a two-year period at Christiana Care Health
System, which performs 44,000 surgeries each year,
there were three incidents of retained objects. The
root-cause team took a different approach to identifying
opportunities to prevent further mishaps.
The speakers will identify the factors that contributed
to the incidents of retained objects and describe
the effect human factors play in the OR setting.
Curran will share the development and implementation
of a patient-focused count program that emphasizes
involvement of the entire team. Revised policy and
practice changes resulted in no retained objects
in over three years.
This is an hour-long webinar. Fee $149. Additional
listeners may obtain CEUs,
Leaders:
Mary Cay Curran,
RN, MSN, CAPA, Perioperative Manager for
Clinical Standards, and Judith
A. Townsley, RN, MSN, CPAN, Director of

An Introduction
to Lean in the OR (New Managers)
Is Lean equal to efficiency? Short answer: no. Do
you know the difference?
Today, more than ever, the OR (and every part of the
hospital) is under pressure to improve. Lean is one
methodology touted as a miracle cure and path to dramatic
organizational improvement.
New managers often move into an organization that has
begun to explore Lean methods, yet they may need help
figuring out what Lean is and how it applies to their
own processes. This session will provide an introduction
to Lean concepts and separate the myths from the reality
of this process improvement methodology. We will review
real examples from perioperative services to provide
a context for how Lean improvements can apply to this
diverse environment.
This is an hour-and-a-half webinar. Fee $179
